I am fairly new to chemical exfoliators and was scared of trying any product that might have an adverse effect on my skin. I have used Clinique clarifying toner once. I got a sample from the clinique store. But I felt little stinging sensation on my skin and I did not want to buy the full size. So I was searching for products with AHA in it and came across this.
Today I am going to talk about this chemical exfoliator from my favourite korean beauty brand – Innisfree
Product Description – A gommage type peeling mask providing a chemical peeling effect of green barley vinegar and a physical peeling effect of cellulose.
Gommage is a gentle exfoliator that is like a cream or paste, which is applied to the skin and is removed after few minutes by massaging it into the skin.
Price – Rs 1000/- INR
WATER, CELLULOSE, DIPROPYLENE GLYCOL, ALCOHOL, BUTYLENE GLYCOL, GLYCERIN, SACCHAROMYCES/BARLEY SEED FERMENT FILTRATE, HORDEUM VULGARE SEED EXTRACT, ORYZA
SATIVA (RICE) EXTRACT, CITRUS UNSHIU PEEL EXTRACT, ORCHID EXTRACT, CAMELLIA SINENSIS LEAF EXTRACT, CAMELLIA JAPONICA LEAF EXTRACT, OPUNTIA COCCINELLIFERA FRUIT EXTRACT, GLYCOLIC ACID, SALICYLIC ACID, BETAINE, ETHYLHEXYLGLYCERIN, CARBOMER, POTASSIUM HYDROXIDE, PROPANEDIOL, PEG-60 HYDROGENATED CASTOR OIL, DISODIUM EDTA, PHYNOXYETHANOL, FRAGRANCE
AHA derived from the Green Barley Vinegar, Glycolic Acid which is again AHA and salicylic acid which is BHA
AHA is better known for its exfoliating and moisturizing effects and BHA is helpful in treating acne, blackheads and whiteheads and is suitable for clearing out pores which is a very common problem for oily skin.
My take on the Product – The product comes in a green tube. The packaging is just like the whole green barley range.
The mask looks like white gel but its not a gel though and has granules in it. The granules are soft and not coarse like the ones you find in a scrub. The product turns into balls when I spread it onto the skin which I assume to be the cellulose fibers. It does not apply smoothly as it has those granules in it. As per the direction it should be kept for 3 mins and that is exactly what I do. I keep it on for 3 mins and then apply a little bit of water to massage it before taking it off.
You might feel a tingling sensation when you first put on the mask, which is normal as it is a chemical exfoliator.
Everytime I use this mask my skin feels so smooth. It does not dry out my skin, does not cause any break outs. I use this once a week. Most of the time I follow with my usual night time skincare routine, but sometimes I use a sheet mask after using this product. It removes dead skin and whiteheads quite effectively and also cleans my pores.
It does not do anything about the black heads though which I wasn’t expecting it to. There are limitations to chemical exfoliation you know !! 😋
Overall, it is a very good product if you are a beginner in chemical exfoliation. It is mild and effective. It is very easy to use and not at all time consuming. I wouldn’t say that it comes cheap. Plus you need to lot to cover the whole face though it will last a long time for me as I use it once in week. All in all it is a good exfoliator and I would recommend to give it a try. But do a patch test before you go all in with this product because not everyone reacts the same to the ingredients in it. Oh ! and it contains ALCOHOL (which is another minus)
